Decorating Tips
The cozy cabin or country lodge look is a fun and very inviting look to your home. Or maybe you really have a place tucked away in the wilderness and need to accessorize. Either way, you can decorate your living space easily with just a few great pieces and help from the outdoors.
One of the most inexpensive options is right from nature. Pine cones, dried leaves, acorns, etc., when collected and displayed in wicker or the popular birch bark containers, are perfect and come together in a snap. They make a great centerpiece on your table, add charm to the fireside or provide a greeting for guests on the front porch.
Wall art is always important to a room's look. A great wildlife print, collection of wooden signs, birch bark shelves or wooden trimmed mirror are all great for the focal point in your room. Just be sure to keep the center of your grouping at eye level and well balanced. A great method is to lay out your grouping on the floor first and tweak as needed before pounding any nails in.
To help complete lodge/cabin look, it’s important to have the right decorating accessories. Stick with accessories that have the same feel as your wall groupings and furniture. Birch bark picture frames filled with your snapshots do double duty by complementing the look and adding a bit of you to the room. Try adding decorative decoys, a piece of taxidermy, plaid pillows, rustic birdhouses or the very popular wooden or tin signs with clever sayings. Just be sure to keep proportion and scaling in check; you don’t want to end up with a room full of oversized pieces--you’ll feel cramped for space and that’s not very inviting.
And one of the best parts of decorating with the outdoors look is that it looks great in any room!
